Angels two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has given plenty of teams trouble in 2022, both at the plate and on the mound, but his offensive production when facing the A’s is on another level.

Entering the Angels’ three-game series in Oakland that began Monday, Ohtani had a .325 average, five homers, two doubles, eight RBIs and a 1.122 OPS over 10 games against the A’s in 2022.

First-time All-Star Paul Blackburn will be tasked with trying to slow down Ohtani and the Angels today when he takes the ball for Oakland. The right-hander has struggled of late, allowing 25 earned runs over 24 1/3 innings in his past five starts.

The Angels made history the last time they faced Blackburn on Thursday. The Halos hit seven solo homers (two by Ohtani) in the game -- four off Blackburn -- but still lost, 8-7.

A’s first baseman Seth Brown had the big blow for Oakland in that contest, belting a two-run homer to cap the team's six-run third inning. Brown homered in seven of his 10 starts from July 21 to Aug. 7 and will try to keep up his hot streak today.
