A's add RHP Raul Alcantara to 40-man roster

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's selected right-handed pitcher Raul Alcantara from Single-A Stockton, the club announced today.

Alcantara combined for a 12-6 record and a 3.11 ERA in 27 starts with the A's Single-A affiliates at Beloit and Stockton in 2013. He tied for second in the A's farm system in wins, ranked third in ERA, fourth in innings (156.1) and fifth in strikeouts (124). The 20-year-old native of the Dominican Republic walked just 24 batters, an average of 1.38 per nine innings, and surrendered 11 home runs. Alcantara was originally signed by Boston as a non-drafted free agent July 2, 2009 and was traded to the A's with Josh Reddick and Miles Head for Andrew Bailey and Ryan Sweeney, December 28, 2011. He is 24-24 with a 3.51 ERA in 80 games, 70 starts, in four professional seasons.
