A's Place C John Jaso on 7-day Disabled List

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's placed catcher John Jaso on the seven-day disabled list retroactive to Sunday with a concussion, the club announced today. His roster spot will be taken by catcher Geovany Soto, who joins the team today after being acquired from Texas yesterday for cash considerations.

Jaso was batting .264 with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 99 games with the A's. He has made 79 starts for Oakland this year, all against right-handed pitching, and is also 6 for 16 (.375) with three RBI and three walks as a pinch hitter. Jaso was batting .174 in 16 games in August after hitting .323 in July. This marks the second time he has gone on the disabled list with a concussion as he missed the final two months of the 2013 season after going on the DL July 25.

Soto began the season on the 60-day disabled list with torn lateral meniscus cartilage in his right knee. He was reinstated July 18 and went 4 for 11 (.364) in three games before returning the DL July 22 with a strained right groin. The 31-year-old right-handed hitter was reinstated Aug. 8 and is 5 for 27 (.185) with a home run and two RBI in seven games since his return. Soto is batting .237 in 10 games overall and is .248 career hitter with 92 home runs and 314 RBI in 666 games in the majors with the Cubs (2005-12) and Rangers (2012-14).
