A's Place IF Nick Punto on the DL; Recall 1B Nate Freiman from Sacramento

The Oakland A's placed infielder Nick Punto on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring and recalled first baseman Nate Freiman from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today.

Punto was batting .207 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 64 games with the A's before injuring his hamstring in the fifth inning yesterday. He was just 8 for 65 (.123) over his final 25 games. Punto has started 34 games at second base and 10 at shortstop and has also played third base and right field. This is his 13th career stint on the disabled list but his first in the last three seasons.

Freiman joins the A's for the second time this year as he batted .212 with a home run and six RBI during a 14-game stint from June 29 to July 26. He has spent the balance of the season at Sacramento, where he is batting .284 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI in 80 games. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter ranks fifth in the Pacific Coast League in RBI. Freiman was batting .304 against right-handed pitching compared to .233 against left-handers with the River Cats. He went 6 for 14 (.429) with two doubles, a home run, five RBI and three walks in four games following his July 27 option.
