Wilson names Reddick A's top defensive player

OAKLAND -- The defensive awards keep rolling in for right fielder Josh Reddick, who has been selected by Wilson as the A's Defensive Player of the Year.

The inaugural Wilson Defensive Players of the Year, selected by detailed defensive statistical analysis used by MLB Network, were announced on Sunday night.

The Angels' Mike Trout was crowned the top defensive player in the American League, while Michael Bourn of the Braves took home the National League honor. Atlanta was also named the top defensive team.

It was just last week that the 25-year-old Reddick, fresh off his first full season in the Majors, took home his first Gold Glove. His 15 outfield assists, which ranked third among AL outfielders, were the most by an A's player in 29 years and tied Rickey Henderson (1980) and Reggie Jackson (1971) for third-most in Oakland history.

As part of the 2012 Greatness in Baseball Yearly Awards, the GIBBY trophy for Defensive Player of the Year will be awarded, based on fan voting at, media, front-office personnel, MLB alumni and the Society for American Baseball Research.

From Monday, Nov. 12, through Sunday, Dec. 2, fans will be able to cast their ballots at for the year's top defensive star, with no individual league affiliation.
