Cook, Doolittle lending a hand for A's charity events

A's relievers Ryan Cook and Sean Doolittle are joining forces to aid their club's ongoing outreach efforts in the local community.

Fresh off inspiring rookie campaigns, Cook and Doolittle will be making appearances this week at a Feeding America food collection and the annual A's Community Fund holiday party.

They will be at the Bank of America Walnut Creek banking center on Thursday from 5-6 p.m. PT collecting food to benefit Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano as part of a hunger-relief effort with Feeding America and Bank of America.

The first 150 people to make a minimum donation of five non-perishable food items will receive an autographed photo card from both players, who helped the A's make their first playoff appearance since 2006 this year.

Cook and Doolittle will make their way to the A's Community Fund holiday party on Friday. At this private function at the Oakland Zoo, the A's will host 230 fourth- and fifth-grade students from Oakland's Achieve Academy for lunch and entertainment, including the chance to meet Cook and Doolittle and receive autographs.

The students also will receive a wrapped gift, compliments of the Good Tidings Foundation, and witness an animal presentation by the Oakland Zoo in the Wildlife Theater.
