Infielder Renato Núñez claimed off waivers by Texas

Núñez began the season on the 10-day disabled list

The Oakland A's have announced that infielder Renato Núñez has been claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. The Athletics 40-man roster now stands at 39.

Núñez, 24, hit .360 (9-for-25) with three runs and two RBI in six games with Triple-A Nashville during his rehab assignment. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list March 26 with a strained left hamstring. In parts of two Major League seasons with Oakland, he hit .167 (5-for-30) with one run, one home run and four RBI in 17 games. In eight minor league seasons, he hit .263 (725-for-2755) with 395 runs, 155 doubles, 10 triples, 130 home runs and 467 RBI in 700 games. He was signed by Oakland as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2010.
