Reddick, Lawrie boost A's with strong bats

p>OAKLAND -- Josh Reddick and Brett Lawrie supplied all the power for the A's during Tuesday night's 6-2 victory over the Angels.

While Reddick kept up his recent hot streak with a three-RBI performance, Lawrie also drove in three runs for the second straight contest. It was just the type of evening manager Bob Melvin was hoping to see out of his Nos. 6 and 7 hitters.

"It's important for us," Melvin said. "We can't just expect two or three guys to carry the load offensively, we need it throughout. Getting that kind of production from Reddick in the six-hole and Lawrie has the ability to do that. ... You feel good about having a chance to score every inning."

Reddick started off the first-inning rally with a two-run single to center field. He also blasted a solo shot to the right-field bleachers to give the A's an insurance run in the sixth. The right fielder is now riding a six-game hitting streak with a 10-for-19 (.526) mark at the plate in that span. He also leads the A's with a .360 batting average.

"I'm seeing everything pretty well, not trying to do too much up there," Reddick said. "Just hit the ball. I've always said once the home run and long ball is off my mind, then I'm gonna be set. So that's what happened tonight. I wasn't trying to hit one and did hit one. Just getting in a good position to hit and recognizing pitches early."

Meanwhile, Lawrie put Oakland ahead for good in the bottom of the first when he took Jered Weaver deep to left field with a no-doubt, three-run shot on the first pitch of the at-bat. Lawrie has driven in six runs the past two contests after recording four RBIs in his first 18 games of the season.

Lawrie said he feels like he's seeing the ball well at the plate.

"Just getting ready to hit. I think that's the biggest thing," Lawrie said. "Stepping in and not allowing pitches to get by and get down in counts. Try and get yourself into a count where you can do some damage. Fortunately enough tonight there were some guys on base and helped the team out."
