Chapman (16), Davis (33) homer in first inning

ANAHEIM -- The red-hot A's, freshly removed from an off-day in Orange County, wasted no time getting back into action, jumping out to a lead over the Angels courtesy of first-inning homers from and  in the A's 4-3 loss.
Chapman lifted a solo shot to center field against Angels right-hander for his 16th of the season, in front of his hometown crowd no less. responded with a base hit, and Davis drilled his team-leading 33rd homer to center for a swift three-run advantage.

Davis, who also increased his RBI total to 90, second-most in the Majors, has 12 home runs in 19 games since the All-Star break -- and 118 since the start of 2016, tops among all players.
The A's, who own the best record since June 16 (34-11), entered the day with a 2 1/2-game lead for the second American League Wild Card spot.
