Canha makes great catch after clutch hit in 9th

A's outfielder hits game-tying single, two-run homer before making grab

OAKLAND -- already had a big day when he turned in what could be the A's defensive play of the year in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Angels in 11 innings.
After opening the scoring with a two-run homer in the second and tying the game with a two-out single in the ninth, Canha was moved from center to left field to begin the 10th inning.
Canha was tested almost immediately, racing from left field to deep left-center to run down ' drive with one out in the 10th. According to Statcast™, Canha covered 98 feet in 5.4 seconds and reached an above-average sprint speed of 28.1 feet per second. The catch probability was 5 percent, making it a 5-star catch. It had the lowest catch probability on a grab by an A's player this season.
"I didn't think it was going out, but I didn't think he had a chance to catch that ball," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "That might be the best play we've seen him make, and he's made some good plays this year."

Canha was determined to get to the ball.
"You are never sure right off the bat," Canha said. "But as I was running, I put my head down, took a peek and thought to myself, 'I can get this ball.'"
