OAKLAND, Calif. – The A’s and Kaiser Permanente will celebrate the Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay (VACCEB), The Bread Project, and Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) as the 2022 Kaiser Permanente Community Excellence Award recipients prior to the start of the game on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Representatives from the three local organizations will be joined on the field by Nicole Barnett, RN, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Executive, Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. Sean Fong from VACCEB will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay is a community-based organization that has provided vulnerable communities with high quality and impactful education, employment, health and wellness, food security, and social navigation services.

Since 2000, The Bread Project has leveraged the power of food prep training, baking job training, and placement assistance to reentry and justice-involved individuals as well as immigrants and refugees to support their integration into society. To date, The Bread Project has graduated more than 2,200 people with a job placement rate of 80 to 85 percent.

Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) is an award-winning nonprofit serving Bay Area youth ages 11 to 24 impacted by the justice system. For more than 20 years, FLY has worked to mentor and partner with youth to unlock their potential, disrupt the pipeline to prison, and advance justice in California and beyond.

“Kaiser Permanente is proud to partner with the Oakland Athletics on the A’s Community Day, honoring three community organizations dedicated to providing critical support and services for our East Bay families,” said Nicole Barnett, RN, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Executive, Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center. “An important part of our mission is to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve, and we are pleased to recognize these local agencies along with the Oakland Athletics for the work they do to keep our community healthy.”
