A’s announce Opening Day roster

July 23rd, 2020

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated right-handed pitcher Daniel Mengden from the 60-day injured list, the club announced today. The A’s also placed left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk on the 10-day injured list retroactive to July 20 with a strained left shoulder and optioned catcher Jonah Heim to their alternate site. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated right-handed pitcher Daniel Gossett for assignment.

Mengden was placed on the 60-day injured list Feb. 15 following arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow on Feb. 10 and did not pitch this spring. Puk was 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two spring training starts but did not pitch after Feb. 27. Heim batted .320 with two doubles and five RBI in 14 games. Gossett did not allow a run in three relief appearances and 4.0 innings this spring after missing the entire 2019 season following Aug. 1, 2018 UCL reconstruction surgery.
