OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics recalled left-handed pitcher Jared Koenig and infielder Dermis Garcia from Triple-A Las Vegas, the club announced today.  To clear space on the roster, the A’s optioned right-handed pitcher Norge Ruiz to Las Vegas and placed outfielder Skye Bolt on the 10-day injured list with a right knee patella subluxation.

Koenig joins the A’s for the third time this year after going 1-3 with a 6.39 ERA and .834 opponents OPS in five starts over his first two stints from June 8-25 and July 12-16.  He is also 5-5 with a 4.20 ERA and .730 opponents OPS in 17 games, 15 starts, with Las Vegas.  The 28-year-old left-hander has struck out 97 in 96.1 innings and has walked just 27.  Koenig was 1-2 with a 5.85 ERA in six games, five starts, with the Aviators following his July 17 option.

Garcia joins the A’s for the second time in 2022 after going 5-for-20 (.250) with two doubles and an RBI in eight games in his Major League debut from July 10 to Aug. 6.  He is batting .264 with 13 home runs, 44 RBI and a .847 OPS in 68 games with Las Vegas and was 16-for-52 (.308) with five home runs and 14 RBI in 14 games following his Aug. 7 option.  The 24-year-old right-handed hitter was originally signed by the Yankees on July 2, 2014 after being ranked by MLB.com as the top prospect for the 2014 international signing period.  Garcia batted .227 with 93 home runs and 246 RBI in 415 games in six seasons in the Yankees farm system before signing a minor league deal with the A’s Nov. 19, 2021 after becoming a free agent.

Ruiz was selected from Las Vegas a week ago today and allowed seven runs, five earned, in 6.0 innings over three appearances.  He allowed 14 hits but walked just one while striking out nine.  Ruiz is also 5-1 with two saves and a 3.83 ERA in 30 relief appearances with the Aviators.

Bolt was batting .198 with four home runs, 13 RBI and a .589 OPS in 42 games with the A’s.  This is his second stint on the injured list this year as he was also on the IL from April 7-June 30.  He originally went on the IL the first time with a strained right oblique and then strained his left hamstring during a rehab assignment.
