OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland Athletics recalled outfielder Conner Capel from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned outfielder Cody Thomas to Las Vegas, the club announced today.

Capel was claimed off waivers from St. Louis on Sept. 9 and went 9-for-28 (.321) with two doubles and four RBI in seven games with Las Vegas. He made his Major League debut with the Cardinals earlier this year and went 3-for-17 (.176) with a home run and two RBI in nine games. Capel also played in 87 games with Triple-A Memphis and batted a combined .263 with 10 home runs, 42 RBI and a .786 OPS in 94 minor league games. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter walked 53 times and stole 21 bases. Capel was originally selected by Cleveland in the fifth round of the 2016 draft and was dealt to the Cardinals at the trading deadline in 2018. He is a .251 career hitter with 64 home runs, 277 RBI and a .740 OPS in 589 games over six seasons in the minors.

Thomas was recalled from Las Vegas on Sept. 1 and hit .267 with no RBI in 10 games in his Major League debut with the A’s. He hit safely in each of his first four games (7-for-12) but was 1-for-18 in six games since then. Thomas missed most of the season following surgery on his right achilles tendon and is hitting .226 with a .725 OPS in 10 minor league games with Las Vegas and the A’s Arizona Complex League affiliate.
