The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired LHP CLAYTON RICHARD and cash considerations from the SAN DIEGO PADRES in exchange for OF CONNOR PANAS.
RICHARD, 35, went 7-11 with a 5.33 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP across 27 starts with the San Diego Padres during the 2018 season. The Lafayette, IN, native has a record of 68-79 with a 4.46 ERA over his 10-year Major League career. The 6-5, 240 lb. left-handed pitcher also posted a National League best 60.3 ground ball percentage over the last four seasons.
PANAS, 25, hit .232 with 16 doubles, two triples, nine home runs, and 39 RBI in 105 games with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League (AA). The 6-0, 218 lb. left-handed hitting outfielder was selected in the ninth round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft. The Toronto, ON, native has posted a .251 batting average over four Minor League seasons with 56 doubles, 48 home runs, 173 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.
To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP OLIVER DRAKE has been designated for assignment.
