Blue Jays sign Navarro

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have agreed to terms with C DIONER NAVARRO on a two-year contract worth US $8 million, consisting of US $3 million in 2014 and US $5 million in 2015. As part of the contract Dioner will make a donation to the Jays Care Foundation.

Navarro, 29, batted .300 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI in 89 games for the Chicago Cubs last season. The Caracas, Venezuela native and 2008 All-Star, threw out 26% of potential base stealers (13-50) in 2013 and is at 29% for his career. Originally signed as an amateur free agent by the Yankees in 2000, the 5-9, 205 pound switch-hitter has recorded a career .251 average, with a .313 OBP, 54 home runs and 243 RBI for the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Tampa Bay, Cincinnati and Chicago Cubs over 10 Major League seasons.
