Blue Jays claim Casper Wells

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have claimed outfielder CASPER WELLS on waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

WELLS, 28, was designated for assignment on March 31 by the Seattle Mariners.  In 2012, the 6-2, 210 lb. right-handed hitting outfielder batted .228 with 12 doubles, three triples and 10 home runs while driving in 36 runs in 93 games for the Mariners .  The Grand Rapids, Michigan native has a career Major League batting average of .246 with 25 home runs and 80 RBI in 224 contests over three seasons (Detroit, 2010-2011 and Seattle, 2011-2012).

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays have designated RHP ALEX BURNETT for assignment.
