Blue Jays Unveil Field of Dreams for Neilson Park

$74,500 Jays Care grant funds refurbishment of Neilson Park baseball diamond

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS will be joined by the City of Toronto and the Scarborough Stingers Baseball Association on June 19th at 5:30pm to unveil the newly-refurbished baseball diamond at Neilson Park in Scarborough, made possible by a Field of Dreams grant from Jays Care Foundation. Joining members of the Blue Jays and Jays Care Foundation will be ROBERTO ALOMAR, LLOYD MOSEBY and SANDY ALOMAR SR. and Sportsnet's HUGH BURRILL who will be the event emcee.

The Toronto Blue Jays, through JAYS CARE FOUNDATION, have invested $74,500 in the City of Toronto for the refurbishment - an endeavor that will impact more than 150 Scarborough Baseball Association members during the 2014 baseball season.

Following a presentation, 80 local youth - 70 Scarborough Stingers members and 10 Blue Jays Baseball Academy Rookie League participants - will take part in a free Blue Jays Baseball Academy Instructional Clinic led by Blue Jays staff and alumni.

In preparation for opening ceremonies, 40 members of the Jays Care Community Crew, including members of the Blue Jays Grounds Crew, visited Neilson Park on June 17, to perform a baseball diamond makeover. Community Crew members lined the infield, edged both the infield & outfield, applied fresh coats of paint and tailored the mounds on both the diamond and the bullpen.
