D-backs right-hander Matt Peacock sustained a contusion on his right ring finger when he tried to field a comebacker in the second inning of Wednesday afternoon's 4-0 loss to the A's at Oakland Coliseum. X-rays were negative, and Peacock is day to day.

With two outs and Mark Canha on third, Peacock attempted to snare a 97.8-mph ground ball off the bat of Jed Lowrie, but the ball deflected off his hand, allowing Canha to score. Peacock was met by a trainer and threw one errant warmup pitch before being removed from the game.

Manager Torey Lovullo said after the game that Peacock is feeling good. The team will wait to see how he feels after Thursday's off-day before determining his status for his next start.

The Diamondbacks can ill afford to lose another starting pitcher. Among the starters on their injured list are left-hander Madison Bumgarner and righties Zac Gallen and Taylor Widener.
