TORONTO -- The Blue Jays made a pair of notable promotions in their front office Thursday, announcing that Mike Murov has moved into the role of assistant general manager and Joe Sclafani has become the new director of player development.

Both entering their seventh year with the Blue Jays’ organization, Murov and Sclafani remain core members of a front-office group looking to get a young team back into the postseason after falling just short with a 91-71 record in 2021.

“Over the last six years, both Mike and Joe have added immense value to our team, and we are excited for that to continue in their well-deserved new roles,” said general manager Ross Atkins. “We are looking forward to their impact and influence on the organization, both on the field and in the front office, as we strive to become the best environment in baseball for our players and staff.”

Murov, who is being promoted from his role as director of baseball operations, is a Dartmouth College graduate who began his career in 2008 with the Marlins as a player development intern before joining the Reds as an intern in 2009 and eventually working for the Red Sox in 2010.

Sclafani, formerly the assistant director of player development, is a former 14th-round Draft pick of the Astros in 2012 and played four seasons in the Minors, reaching Triple-A in 2015. He takes over the director role from Gil Kim, who moved into a unique hybrid position prior to the 2020 season that saw him oversee the farm system while being a member of the day-to-day MLB coaching staff. Kim remains with the organization.
