Blue Jays make two changes to coaching staff

Blue Jays hitting coach Chad Mottola and first base coach Dwayne Murphy will not return for the 2014 season, the club announced Monday evening.

The Blue Jays also announced that DeMarlo Hale (bench coach), Pete Walker (pitching coach), Luis Rivera (third base coach) and Pat Hentgen (bullpen coach) will remain with the club in their current roles.

Mottola, 41, had coached in the Blue Jays' system since 2007, but '13 was his first year with the big league club. Murphy, 58, had been in the organization since '05 and with the Blue Jays since '08, also serving as a hitting coach.

The Blue Jays' news release indicated that Murphy will retire from coaching at the Major League level.
