Braves hire former Tribe GM Hart as senior advisor

ATLANTA -- John Hart and Braves president John Schuerholz share a friendship that dates back long before they served as opposing general managers when Cleveland and Atlanta met in the 1995 World Series.

So when Hart's contract to serve as a special advisor in the Rangers organization recently expired, Schuerholz and Braves general manager Frank Wren offered the opportunity for Hart to assume a similar role in Atlanta.

The Braves announced Hart had been hired as a senior advisor in the baseball-operations department on Friday afternoon.

"We are excited that we are able to add a senior advisor with John's resume to our baseball-operations staff," Wren said. "John brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that we can utilize in all facets of the game. He adds to an already strong staff of baseball professionals, and his hiring continues our pursuit to be the best organization in the game."

After serving as the Rangers general manager from 2002-05, the 65-year-old Hart spent the past eight seasons with the club serving as a senior advisor to Texas general manager Jon Daniels.

Hart brings a wealth of experience to the Braves organization. He served as Cleveland's general manager for 10 seasons (1992-2001). During that span, he helped the Indians capture six division titles and make two trips to the World Series.

While serving in this role with the Braves, Hart plans to continue as an analyst on MLB Network.
