Atlanta Braves Make Spring Roster Moves

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The Atlanta Braves trimmed their spring roster by 14 players today, as two players were optioned, seven players were re-assigned to minor league camp, four players were placed on the disabled list and one player will remain in Florida to continue his injury rehabilitation.

Right-handed pitchers Cory Gearrin and Julio Teheran will be optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.
 
Catchers J.C. Boscan and Jose Yepez were re-assigned, along with infielders Andrelton Simmons, Drew Sutton and Josh Wilson and outfielders Luis Durango and Jordan Parraz.

Third baseman Chipper Jones was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, as he continues his recovery from arthroscopic surgery on March 26 to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. Left-handed pitcher Robert Fish was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with left elbow tendinitis. Right-handed pitcher Anthony Varvaro was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a right pectoral strain and right-handed pitcher Arodys Vizcaino was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, as he continues his recovery from "Tommy John" surgery performed last month. Right-handed pitcher Peter Moylan will remain in Florida to continue rehabbing his right shoulder.

Atlanta now has 26 active players remaining in its Major League camp, but the official Opening Day roster will not be announced until tomorrow (Tuesday, April 3).

The Braves begin the 2012 campaign on Thursday, April 4, at New York (1:10 pm, SportSouth).
