Braves and Dodgers Complete Six-Player Trade
The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers completed a six-player trade today, as Atlanta acquired infielder Juan Uribe and right-handed pitcher Chris Withrow in exchange for infielder Alberto Callaspo, left-handed pitchers Eric Stults and Ian Thomas and minor-league right-handed pitcher Juan Jaime.
Uribe, 36, is batting .247 (20-for-81) with one home run and six RBI in 29 games this season, his fifth with the Dodgers. He has made 22 starts, all at third base, and has committed one error in 54 total chances (.981 fielding percentage). Since joining the Dodgers in 2011, he leads all Major League third baseman with a .978 fielding percentage.
The Palenque, D.R., native compiled career-high totals in batting average (.311, 120-for-386) and on-base percentage (.337) for the Dodgers last season, while hitting nine home runs and driving in 54 runs in 103 games. He was also honored with Wilson Defensive Player of the Year honors as the top third baseman in the Majors.
Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent in 1997 by Colorado, Uribe made his Major League debut in 2001 with the Rockies. He was traded to Chicago (AL) in 2003 and helped the White Sox win the World Series in 2005. He signed with San Francisco in 2009 and won another World Series title with the Giants in 2010 before signing with the Dodgers that offseason. He is a career .257 (1,448-for-5,644) hitter, with 179 home runs and 754 RBI during the regular season and has five home runs and 24 RBI in 44 career postseason games.
Withrow, 26, is in his third big league season as he recovers from "Tommy John" surgery performed on June 3, 2014. The righthander is 3-0 lifetime, with a 2.73 ERA (17 ER/56.0 IP) in 46 games out of the bullpen. He has struck out 71 and allowed six home runs.
A first-round selection (20th overall) by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of Midland Christian (TX) High School in 2007, Withrow moved to the bullpen in 2012 and made his Major League debut a season later.
