Selig: Chipper has place with game's greats

ATLANTA -- Commissioner Bud Selig said on Saturday that Braves third baseman Chipper Jones has become synonymous with the franchise.

Selig, who was speaking to reporters at Turner Field during the sixth Civil Rights Game, compared Jones to Hall of Famers Robin Yount and George Brett -- great players who played their entire career for the same team.

"You think of Chipper Jones, you think of the Atlanta Braves and I can see how much he's meant here," Selig said. "How much does it mean to baseball? More than I think people can comprehend. It means a great deal."

Jones announced his intentions to retire following the season in Spring Training, which would conclude his 19th Major League campaign. Jones leads the Braves this season with a .313 batting average and has 13 home runs.
