The Braves signed free-agent outfielder Reed Johnson to a one-year contract Thursday, with an option for '14.
The 10-year veteran hit .270 last season for Atlanta in 43 games after being acquired from the Cubs in a trade for left-handed pitcher Paul Maholm. Between the two clubs, Johnson hit .290 (78-for-269) while leading the National League in pinch-hitting.
Johnson will turn 36 on Saturday, and he ranks sixth in the Majors against left-handed pitching since 2003 with a .311 average.
Financial terms of Johnson's deal were not announced.
