ATLANTA -- Freddie Freeman now owns MLB's longest hitting streak of the season. His quest to claim the Atlanta record has garnered the attention of one of his closest friends, who just happened to set this mark five years ago.
Freeman's extended his career-best hitting streak to 30 games with a sixth-inning single off Phil Klein during Wednesday night's 12-2 win over the Phillies at Turner Field. Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr.'s 29-game streak had previously stood as MLB's longest of the season.
"Sometimes I see that [streak] and I don't even realize it," Braves manager Brian Snitker said. "I'm sitting there living it, and you take it for granted now with this guy. He's a machine."

Freeman was hit by a pitch in the third inning to extend his on-base streak to 46 games, which matches Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth for the longest record in the Majors this season. Gary Sheffield (52 games in 2002) owns the Atlanta record.
As they played together for the Braves, Freeman and Dan Uggla developed a bond that led them to both select the other to be a part of their wedding party. Now the two will have some fun as the Atlanta-record 33-game hitting streak Uggla set in 2011 could soon fall.
Uggla was in attendance for Wednesday night's game. When the second inning concluded with Freeman in the on-deck circle, the former second baseman playfully threw his arms up in the air while looking at Freeman.
Freeman has batted .384/.485/.670 and tallied seven home runs during his hitting streak, which dates back to Aug. 24. He has hit .390 and compiled a .512 on-base percentage during his on-base streak, which dates back to Aug. 6.
