ATLANTA -- The Braves are looking forward to the possibility that Luiz Gohara and Mike Soroka could rejoin their pitching staff within the next week.
While Soroka's estimated return date remained unknown as he prepared to make a rehab start for Class A Rome on Friday night, Gohara informed the Braves he will travel back from Brazil and be at SunTrust Park before Saturday night's game against the Nationals.
Gohara told manager Brian Snitker he was able to throw off a mound twice while spending the past week attending to his mother, who underwent heart surgery earlier this month. Still, the Braves will have him complete a bullpen session before determining exactly when and how he will be utilized.
Instead of asking Gohara to immediately serve as a starting pitcher, the Braves could give him a couple relief appearances and determine whether he provides more value as a starter or a consistent multi-innings option out of the bullpen.

"We'll talk to him, see what he looks like and go from there," Snitker said.
Gohara was placed on the bereavement list after he transitioned from a relief role to make his first start on May 23 in Philadelphia. Because his stay on this list was limited to seven games, he was placed on the restricted list Thursday. A player does not draw a salary or accrue service time while on the restricted list.
Soroka was scheduled to complete three innings or push his pitch count to around 60 during Friday's outing. He has been sidelined over the past couple of weeks because of right shoulder inflammation that began bothering him after his May 12 start in Miami. The Braves have not determined whether the 20-year-old right-hander will make more than one rehab start before being activated.
