Slate named director of strength and conditioning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Braves announced on Monday afternoon that Rick Slate will now serve as their director of strength and conditioning.

Slate will oversee all aspects of strength and conditioning programs at all levels of the Braves organization. The club will continue to employ Phil Falco as their Major League strength and conditioning coach.

The plan is for Slate to be at Turner Field when the big league team is at home. When the club is on the road, he will check in with the club's Minor League affiliates. A 20-year veteran of the professional baseball ranks, he joined the Braves last year to serve as the Minor League strength and conditioning coordinator.

"He's very passionate and he did a very good job in his first year with us at the Minor League level," Braves general manager Frank Wren said. "We'd like to have top-to-bottom a consistent program. So he's going to oversee that."
