July 20th, 2022

ATLANTA (July 20, 2022) – To honor and recognize the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), the Atlanta Braves will host their annual Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Night at Truist Park on Saturday, July 23 as the team takes on the Los Angeles Angels.

Braves fans are encouraged to arrive early on Saturday, July 23 to enjoy a stickball demonstration, followed by a performance by Cherokee dance group Raven Rock Dancers on the Plaza Green in The Battery Atlanta beginning at 5 p.m. By the Third Base Gate, EBCI vendors will be offering authentic, handcrafted Native American goods, including jewelry, artwork, and more.

An immersive artistic experience, “Where She Walked,” will be installed by the Third Base Gate to educate fans on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis within Indian Country. The exhibit includes photographs of EBCI women along with statistics about the rate of violence against American Indian/Alaska Native women.

The Braves will pay tribute to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians with a special on-field presentation featuring Tribal Royalty, and EBCI representatives will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and signal the start of the game with the honorary “Play Ball” declaration.

The Braves will welcome over 200 members of the EBCI to the game, including Principal Chief, Richard Sneed, Tribe Elders and EBCI Pageant Royalty.

On November 12, the Braves and the EBCI will host the second annual Cherokee Traditions at Truist Park. The free, family-friendly event will showcase Cherokee customs and traditions, including performances, artisans, and storytellers. The highlight of the day will be men’s and youth stickball games played on the Truist Park field, spotlighting the ancient sport that serves as a living cultural tradition.
