Today, Brewers Community Foundation and Koos for Kids will announce a partnership with the Milwaukee Center for Independence (MCFI) to build a new, adaptive playground facility for children with physical and cognitive disabilities.

The adaptive playground will be utilized by children in MCFI's Pediatric Skilled Nursing program, which provides community-based skilled day nursing and education for children, from birth to age 21, who have highly complex medical conditions. A significant percentage of these children are tracheotomy and ventilator dependent, among the most fragile in our community. Their medical conditions range from seizures to severe respiratory problems resulting from prematurity to traumatic brain injury and other trauma.

Members of the media are invited to the groundbreaking ceremony today, September 4, at 12:30 p.m. at MCFI's main campus. It is located at the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Building on 2020 West Wells St. in Milwaukee. A reception will be hosted following the groundbreaking.

MCFI is a non-profit organization that delivers more than 30 programs, serving all ages and all disabilities, through education, employment and commercial service, long-term care, neurorehabilitation, health care and housing.

Koos for Kids is a charitable organization led by Marcus Hanel, the Crew's bullpen catcher. Hanel, otherwise known as "Koos," founded the non-profit in 2004 with the mission of helping terminally ill and disadvantaged children in Southeastern Wisconsin.

Brewers Community Foundation (BCF) is the non-profit, philanthropic arm of the Milwaukee Brewers. BCF harnesses the pride, passion, and commitment of Brewers fans, players, and other supporters to positively impact the lives of children and their families in Greater Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Funding efforts strategically extend financial support to nonprofits that provide quality programming in the areas of health, education, recreation, and basic needs.
