Brewers add outfielder Peterson off waivers

MILWAUKEE -- Four days after taking to Twitter to express his excitement about being a Chicago Cub, Shane Peterson was on the move again. 

Peterson was plucked off the waiver wire Tuesday for the second time in less than a week, this time going from the Cubs to the Brewers. Milwaukee has been looking to add outfielders and left-handed hitters, and with Peterson, who fit the bill on both counts, Milwaukee's 40-man roster is full. 

The 26-year-old was a second-round Draft pick of the Cardinals in 2008 but went to the A's in July 2009 as part of the Matt Holliday trade. He played parts of the past five seasons in the A's organization, appearing at the Triple-A level each of the last four years, before the Cubs claimed him off waivers Friday. 

Peterson is a career .284 hitter in the Minor Leagues and is coming off a career-high 90 RBIs for Triple-A Sacramento in 2014, when he batted .308 and hit 11 home runs. He's manned all three outfield positions and has also played in 138 games at first base. 

The Brewers have four outfielders penciled into the Opening Day mix in right fielder Ryan Braun, center fielder Carlos Gomez, left fielder Khris Davis and the versatile Gerardo Parra, but one more roster spot is unsettled. Peterson joins left-handed hitter Logan Schafer and switch-hitting Elian Herrera as outfielders on the 40-man roster who will vie for the last spot.
