NEW YORK -- Ramon Flores entered play Saturday with a .190 batting average on the season, including a .170 mark against right-handed pitching.
Batting in the No. 8 hole, the outfielder proved to be a pivotal part of the Brewers' offense as he drove in a career-high three runs in Milwaukee's 5-4 loss to the Mets at Citi Field on Saturday.
Flores began his day by sending a 93-mph four-seam fastball from Mets starter Jacob deGrom over the wall in right field for his first Major League home run, a two-run shot that gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
"It was a really good feeling to hit one, but it happened in a loss," Flores said. "It is better when you win. We are a team. I feel good, but at the same time, I feel bad because we lost the game."
Flores said that he had already received the ball back and that he planned to give it to his family.
Two innings later, Flores extended the Brewers' lead to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Aaron Hill, who walked to lead off the fourth and advanced to third on a single by Alex Presley.

In the eighth, the rookie outfielder had an opportunity to tack on another RBI to his total when he came to the plate with runners on first and second and two outs in a tie game.
The at-bat was a battle as Flores saw nine pitches, fouling off four of them, before swinging through an 85-mph slider from Addison Reed to end the frame.

"I was very upset because it was a long battle and I really wanted to win that at-bat," Flores said. "At the end, the pitcher made a good pitch that got me, and I just had to tip my hat."
