Crew-Mets deal involving Gomez falls through

SAN FRANCISCO -- A Brewers deal to send Carlos Gomez to the Mets fell through on Wednesday.

Gomez was informed just before the plane lifted from San Francisco that he'd been traded to the Mets. Multiple news reports, first from the New York Post, indicated the Brewers would get right-hander Zack Wheeler and infielder Wilmer Flores back in the trade, pending physicals.

Said Mets general manager Sandy Alderson: "There is no trade. Unfortunately, social media got ahead of the facts."
