Milwaukee Selects Boston College Outfielder With First-Round Pick

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers selected Boston College outfielder Sal Frelick with the 15th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Vice President of Domestic Scouting Tod Johnson.

Frelick, 21, hit .359 with 6 HR and 27 RBI in 48 games as a junior at Boston College in 2021, earning All-ACC First Team and ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He was named to the Baseball America All-America Third Team and was a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

Undrafted out of Lexington High School (Mass.), Frelick was named All-ACC Second Team and to the ACC All-Freshman team in 2019 after hitting .367 with 4 HR and 32 RBI in 39 games with the Eagles. Frelick hit .241 with 2 HR and 4 RBI in 15 games as a sophomore during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Milwaukee will make its final pick of the first day of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft with the 33rd overall selection in Competitive Balance Round A.

The First-Year Player Draft resumes tomorrow with the second round live on MLB Network and MLB.com beginning at 12 p.m. CT. At the conclusion of the second round, the second day will continue with Competitive Balance Round B through the 10th round on MLB.com.

Rounds 11-20 of the First-Year Player Draft will be held Tuesday, July 13 starting at 11 a.m. CT on MLB.com.
