Dominican Winter League

Aguilas 7, Estrellas 2
Aguilas bounced back from a one-run deficit with a three-run sixth inning, then pulled away with three more in the eighth. Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez struck out seven and allowed only one hit and an unearned run over 4 1/3 innings for Aguilas. In two starts for Aguilas, Martinez has not allowed an earned run. First baseman Andy Marte and right fielder Alexis Gomez each homered and drove in two runs, and designated hitter Joaquin Arias chipped in two hits and two RBIs. Box score

Gigantes 6, Escogido 2
White Sox outfielder Leury Garcia and Orioles outfielder Francisco Peguero sparked the Gigantes offense with three hits apiece. Garcia hit a triple and scored a run, while Peguero hit a two-run homer in the ninth and scored twice. Jimmy Paredes and Juan Silverio provided a boost from the bottom of the lineup with two hits each. Angels prospect C.J. Cron hit a solo homer in the fourth for Escogido, and Pirates prospect Gregory Polanco went 2-for-4 with a walk. Box score

Licey 5, Toros 4 (16 innings)
It took 16 innings, but Licey finally pulled ahead on Emilio Bonifacio's RBI single that scored Leonys Martin. The two clubs were locked up after the ninth, then each scored two in the 11th. Bonifacio went 4-for-8 with a triple and an RBI. Jim Murphy also had four hits and an RBI, and Rangers outfielder Engel Beltre went 2-for-5 with a double, two walks and two RBIs. Box score

Zulia 14, Lara 1
Zulia pounded Lara with 20 hits, scoring four runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth as every player in the starting lineup recorded at least one hit and only one went without an RBI. Phillies infielder Freddy Galvis went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs and Braves farmhand Ernesto Mejia hit a seventh-inning grand slam. Ender Enciarte, J.C. Linares and Jose Flores tallied three hits apiece. Jose Pirela went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Box score

Caracas 8, Aragua 6 (10 innings)
Catcher Ramon Cabrera hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the 10th to give Caracas the victory. Aragua out-hit Caracas, 12-8, but Bobby Abreu (2-for-3, three RBIs) and Alex Gonzalez homered to lead Caracas' offensive attack. Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos led the way offensively for Aragua, going 2-for-5 with a three-run homer. Ronny Cedeno, Yangervis Solarte and Alex Romero chipped in with two hits apiece. Box score

La Guiara 8, Caribes 3
La Guiara peppered Caribes with 16 hits, four of them coming from infielder C.J. Retherford, who split last year between the independent American Association and Double-A Chattanooga. Retherford went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, Carlos Sanchez tallied three hits and Royals catcher Salvador Perez, Alex Cabrera and Rene Reyes added two hits apiece. Box score

Magallanes 6, Margarita 5
Argenis Diaz drew a walk-off walk in the ninth inning to push Magallanes to a dramatic victory after Margarita had tied the game with two runs in the top of the frame. After being shut out for seven innings, Magallanes scored five runs in the eighth to take a lead. Mariners outfielder Endy Chavez went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Magallanes, and catcher Robinson Chirinos went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Wilmer Flores and Nate Tenbrink each went 3-for-5 with two RBIs for Margarita. Box score

Caguas 4, Santurce 1
John Brownell, a 30-year-old right-hander who's been out of affiliated baseball since 2006, allowed one run on six hits over seven innings en route to the victory. Brownell, who pitched last year for the Long Island Ducks, struck out six and lowered his ERA to 2.36. First baseman Andy Gonzalez led the way offensively for Caguas, going 3-for-4 with the team's lone RBI and a run scored. Box score

Mayaguez 5, Carolina 1
Mayaguez got a strong start from former Nationals, Yankees and D-backs right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo, who struck out four and allowed one run on five hits over seven innings. Mets farmhand Randy Fontanez finished the job by striking out three and giving up one hit over two innings. Irving Falu, Kennys Vargas, Martin Maldonado and Eddie Rosario each recorded two hits for Mayaguez, and Rosario and Michael Taylor both went deep in the sixth inning. Box score

Obregon 2, Guasave 0
Both teams had trouble scoring runs, and it was the two Obregon runs in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference. Said Gutierrez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Oscar Rivera got his second win of the season, allowing two hits in five innings. James Avery took his second loss of the year, allowing two runs on five hits in eight innings. Box score

Navojoa 8, Mexicali 4
Wes Bankston led the way for Navojoa, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs, which improved his average to .319. Hector Velazquez improved to 7-1, allowing three runs on two hits in 51/3 innings. Javier Solano took his second loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in five innings. Box score

Culiacan 3, Mazatlan 1
Culiacan scored three runs in the first three innings, which proved to be enough to beat Mazatlan. Luis Alfonso Cruz went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Andres Ivan Meza got his second win, allowing three runs on 5 1/3 innings. Mauricio Lara took his sixth loss. Box score

In a game where the teams combined for 30 hits, Los Mochis came out on top. Yancarlo Angulo led the way with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs. Six Los Mochis players had two hits. Francisco Cordova got his fifth win, and Juan Pablo Menchaca took his second loss. Box score
