ST. LOUIS -- The Pirates' unsuccessful challenge of a call in Sunday's game led to a scoring rally by the Cardinals.
With runners on first and second and one out in the sixth, Yadier Molina hit a hot smash to third baseman Pedro Alvarez, who threw to second baseman Neil Walker, whose relay to first pulled Ike Davis off the bag as umpire Ted Barrett signaled safe.
Davis immediately signaled for Pirates manager Clint Hurdle to come out and challenge the call, which he did.
After a review of two minutes and 57 seconds, it was ruled that Barrett's call would stand, as the replay was inconclusive.
Allen Craig followed with a two-out single that scored from Matt Holliday from third base, and Jhonny Peralta later belted his second homer of the game, a three-run shot, to give the Cardinals a 6-0 lead.
