Cards' coaching staff to remain intact for 2016

ST. LOUIS -- As expected, the Cardinals will retain all eight members of their coaching staff for the 2016 season. One week after announcing that everyone on manager Mike Matheny's staff would be offered contract extensions, general manager John Mozeliak confirmed that the assignments had been finalized.

This will be the first time during Matheny's managerial tenure that he has not experienced offseason turnover with his staff. Last fall, he lost bench coach Mike Aldrete to the Athletics. The club has also had regular changes within its assistant hitting coach position, which has been filled by four men since Matheny took over for Tony La Russa after the 2011 season.

With no changes in order this offseason, David Bell (bench coach), Chris Maloney (first base), Jose Oquendo (third base), Derek Lilliquist (pitching), John Mabry (hitting), Bill Mueller (assistant hitting), Blaise Ilsley (bullpen) and Jamie Pogue (bullpen catcher) maintain their current assignments.
