Cardinals recall rookie reliever Kevin Siegrist; Maikel Cleto optioned to Memphis (AAA)

ST. LOUIS, MO, June 6, 2013 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled rookie left-handed reliever Kevin Siegrist from Memphis (AAA). Right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto was optioned to Memphis following last night's game.  

Siegrist, 23, was recently named the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May. He has split the 2013 season between Springfield (AA) and Memphis (AAA), posting a combined mark of 2-1 with a 1.95 ERA (27.2 IP/ 6 ER) while striking out 44 batters.

Siegrist (pronounced: sea-grist) was the Cardinals 41st round selection (1,235th player overall) out of Palm Beach Community College in the 2008 June draft.

The 6-5, 215-pound Siegrist becomes the 22nd pitcher to appear on the Cardinals roster this season and the eighth to make a rookie debut appearance on the team's big league roster. The Cardinals have used 35 players this season and one player (pitcher Michael Blazek) who did not make a game appearance.

Siegrist will wear uniform no. 46.
