Cardinals sign on with State College affiliate

ST. LOUIS -- After ending their affiliation with Batavia (N.Y.), the Cardinals have agreed to a two-year player development contract with another New York-Penn League club, the State College (Pa.) Spikes.

The Cardinals and Spikes shared an affiliation in 2006; Jason Motte and Allen Craig were among the players who appeared on the State College roster that year. The Spikes were most recently affiliated with the Pirates, who did not renew their contract after the 2012 Minor League season ended.

St. Louis spent six seasons associated with Batavia, a club that went 44-32 this season.

The Cardinals have one more Minor League affiliation to finalize, and an announcement as to where the club will move its Class A club is expected soon. That club was most recently in Quad Cities (Iowa).
