Cards grab outfielder Bautista in Round 12

After drafting all pitchers and infielders on Days 1 and 2 of the First-Year Player Draft, Cardinals scouting director Dan Kantrovitz joked that he may have to move some shortstops to center field to fill out the short-season rosters.

But with their second pick on Day 3, the Cardinals addressed the void in the outfield by selecting Puerto Rican right fielder Ricardo Bautista in the 12th round with the 365th overall selection.

Bautista attended Ladislao Martinez High School in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, the same high school as Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina. Currently 17, Bautista won't turn 18 until December.

"That's gonna be borderline youngest player in the league when he gets there," Kantrovitz said. "He's got some serious juice from the left side. He's got some raw power. You watch the guy in BP and he's gonna pepper around the park all over the place."
