Hitting coach Hansen will not be back with LA in 2013
Hansen is the only member of manager Don Mattingly's staff not being brought back. He has been offered another position in the organization but has not decided to accept, the club said. Hansen, who played 11 seasons for the Dodgers in two stints, has not been available for comment.
Returning will be pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, third-base coach Tim Wallach (who will interview for the Boston managing job next week), first-base coach Davey Lopes, bench coach Trey Hillman and bullpen coach Ken Howell.
The 43-year-old Hansen takes the fall for a disappointing offense that never overcame the hamstring and shoulder injuries that hobbled the lineup's focal point, Matt Kemp.
Even with the second-half additions of All Stars Hanley Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez and Shane Victorino, the Dodgers offense repeatedly failed to mount a consistent attack. The Dodgers' offense finished 13th in runs scored and in RBIs.
The Dodgers have run through six hitting coaches in the seven seasons Ned Colletti has been general manager. Hansen took over last summer for Jeff Pentland, who was preceded by Mattingly, Mike Easler, Bill Mueller and Eddie Murray.
Honeycutt will be entering his eighth season as Dodgers pitching coach, coming off a 2012 season in which the Dodgers were edged by Washington for the best team ERA in the league. Wallach, Lopes and Hillman will be entering their third seasons as coaches for Mattingly. It will be Howell's sixth season as bullpen coach.
