Holliday set to be activated from DL on Saturday

ATLANTA -- Having passed all the necessary running tests, Matt Holliday is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

Holliday, who strained his hamstring on July 11, has been taking batting practice for more than a week. He was cleared to run at full speed several days ago and likely would have been on the field already had he not had to wait the requisite 15 days for his DL stint to end.

With Holliday on his way back, the Cardinals will have to clear a spot for him on the 25-man roster. That will likely mean sending out extra catcher Rob Johnson or first baseman/outfielder Brock Peterson. With Yadier Molina no longer battling a knee issue, the Cardinals seemingly no longer have a need for the third catcher.
