Keeping tabs on the Cardinals' No. 1 prospect

September 19th, 2022

Drafted 21st overall in the 2020 MLB Draft, Jordan Walker quickly shot up the prospect ranks. The 6-foot-5 masher has already shown elite exit velocities in his first taste of the Minors. He maxed out at 116.2 mph in Single-A Southeast last season (a similar max to Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Javier Báez among others in 2021) and had 21 batted balls come in at 100-plus mph there. At just 20 years old, Walker is already knocking on the door of Triple-A.

May 19: Walker's the Cards' top power prospect
If you want to argue Nolan Gorman or even current Minor League home run leader Moisés Gómez, we won’t stop you. He’s already slugging .500 in a league where he’s four years younger than average, and that number may only go up. He’s slugging .625 in May, and three of his four homers on the season have come in his last seven games alone. Full story »

Fresh out of high school, it only took Jordan Walker 27 games at Single-A Palm Beach last summer before convincing the Cardinals he was ready for his next challenge. A little less than a year later, Walker is already through that number of games two levels up, at Double-A Springfield.
