ST. LOUIS -- Matt Adams is finally feeling like himself.
The Cardinals first baseman went 2-for-4 in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday.
"My rhythm and everything, I felt like my old self out there tonight," Adams said. "Hopefully, I can keep it rolling."
Adams has struggled finding his stroke amid a timeshare at first with Brandon Moss and Matt Holliday. Adams had started just one of the previous seven games, but he did have a pinch-hit homer during that stretch.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny was encouraged by what he saw.
"It was nice to see Matt take some good swings," Matheny said. "I mean, go down and get a low pitch and hit it real hard, and then being able to get it down the line. When he gets on a roll, it's fun to watch. He's got some juice."

• Tommy Pham (oblique) took swings in the cage Wednesday, but a rehab assignment is still probably at least a week away.
