Carpenter homers on first pitch vs. Brewers

June 22nd, 2018

MILWAUKEE -- A big part of the Cardinals' recent slide has been how they continued to find themselves in early deficits. St. Louis played from behind in each of the past three games in Philadelphia, surrendering first-inning runs in each contest.
They began an important four-game set Thursday by pulling that same trick on the Brewers, when Matt Carpenter sent 's first pitch of the game over the center-field wall for a leadoff homer. The lead did not last long, however, and the Cardinals went on to lose, 11-3.
The Brewers jumped back ahead when skied what looked like a catchable ball to deep left. But overran it, leaping over the wall like he was attempting to rob a home run. Aguilar's ball landed below him, bouncing off the wall. It was officially scored a two-run double.
For Carpenter, it was his second leadoff homer of the year and fourth big fly in his last five games.
