WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Catcher Carson Kelly, ranked by MLB Pipeline as the organization's No. 2 prospect, was one of four players the Cardinals cut from Major League camp following the team's 3-2 win over Houston on Monday.
Kelly was optioned to Triple-A Memphis, along with right-hander Mike Mayers. Outfielder Jose Adolis Garcia and infielder Patrick Wisdom were reassigned to Minor League camp.

None of the moves comes as a surprise, given that manager Mike Matheny revealed the team's Opening Day roster plans two days ago. Officially, though, there are still several moves left to make, as 37 players remain in big league camp.
Kelly, considered the likely heir to Yadier Molina behind the plate, knew coming into Spring Training that the Cardinals had earmarked him for a return to Memphis. Though Kelly impressed as a September callup last season, the Cardinals did not want to have him sit on the Major League bench with few opportunities to start. He hit .182 and posted a .300 slugging percentage in 16 games this spring.
Mayers, who posted a 1.64 ERA in 11 Grapefruit League innings, will be featured in the Memphis rotation. He had a strong enough spring to position himself among those who would be considered for a callup should the Cardinals need a spot starter in the Majors. Mayers is looking to make a fresh impression after allowing 16 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings with St. Louis last season.

Garcia likely will land with Double-A Springfield, where he will be the starting center fielder. Though he signed in February, Garcia had to sit out the first few weeks of Grapefruit League play while he secured a work visa from Haiti, which is where he established residency after defecting from Cuba. Garcia still ended up logging 25 at-bats and caught the Cardinals' attention with his speed.
Participating in his fourth Major League camp, Wisdom put himself back on the Cardinals' radar by slashing .300/.405/.667 in 25 spring games. Wisdom will start the season in Triple-A, where he'll be an option at both corner-infield spots. The former 52nd overall pick (2012 MLB Draft) is still trying to break into the Majors for the first time.
