Chicago Cubs Announce Tentative 2013 Schedule

Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2013 regular season schedule.  The Cubs will open their 138th season on the road Monday, April 1 against the Pittsburgh Pirates with the Wrigley Field opener taking place Monday, April 8 vs. the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Cubs will begin the 2013 campaign on the road for the first time since 2010 but for the ninth time in the last 12 seasons.  The season-opening road trip features three games against Pittsburgh (April 1, 3-4) and three games in Atlanta (April 5-7).

Chicago’s first homestand features 10 games covering three series against Milwaukee (three games, April 8-10), San Francisco (four games, April 11-14) and the club’s first interleague series of the season against the 2010 and 2011 American League champion Texas Rangers (three games, April 16-18).

The 2013 schedule features eight interleague series, including the annual home-and-home sets against the Chicago White Sox that feature a new look this season.  The Cubs and White Sox will play a total of four games, with the first two games taking place at U.S. Cellular Field from May 27-28 immediately followed by two games at Wrigley Field on May 29-30.

In addition to the visit by Texas, the Cubs welcome A.L. West foes Houston (three games, June 21-23) and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (two games, July 9-10).  The Cubs make their first-ever visit to play the Athletics in Oakland for a three-game set July 2-4, the only city the club has yet to visit since the advent of interleague play.  The Cubs also visit the Angels (two games, June 4-5) and the Seattle Mariners (three games, June 28-30).

The Cubs 2013 tentative schedule features five three-series homestands and five three-city road trips (after only two of each in 2012).

The Cubs are scheduled to host only one holiday game in 2013: Labor Day Monday, September 2 vs. Miami, though the Cubs are home Fourth of July weekend vs. Pittsburgh July 5-7.  The Cubs will be on the road for four holidays next season: May 12 in Washington for Mother’s Day, May 27 at the White Sox on Memorial Day, June 16 at the New York Mets on Father’s Day and in Oakland for the Fourth of July.

The tentative 2013 Chicago Cubs regular season schedule is attached.  Please note that the schedule is subject to change at any time.
