Cubs activate right-handed pitcher Jose Veras, place left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup on 15-day D.L.

ST. LOUIS - The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Jose Veras from the 15-day disabled list and placed left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 10) with left shoulder soreness.

Veras, 33, did not allow a run and surrendered just one hit in 4.2 innings spanning four games during a rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee from May 6-13. He landed on the disabled list, April 26 (retroactive to April 25), with a left oblique strain and returns to the active roster with no record and a 15.88 ERA (10 ER/5.2 IP) in six relief appearances for the Cubs this season.

A native of Santo Domingo, D.R., Veras is 19-22 with 26 saves and a 4.02 ERA (171 ER/382.2 IP) in 400 career major league relief appearances with the Yankees (2006-09), Indians (2009), Marlins (2010), Pirates (2011), Brewers (2012), Astros (2013), Tigers (2013) and Cubs. He has averaged 9.2 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched (393 strikeouts in 382.2 innings) and allowed just 41 home runs in 1,657 batters faced.

Rosscup, 25, has no record, a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/4.0 IP), two walks and five strikeouts in four relief appearances spanning three stints with the Cubs this season.
