MESA, Ariz. -- Cubs top prospect Eloy Jimenez has a bone bruise in his right shoulder, and he will be shut down for at least three weeks, general manager Jed Hoyer said Monday.
"He'll be a little late for the season," Hoyer said of Jimenez, ranked No. 1 in the organization by MLBPipeline.com. "All in all, we feel like it's pretty good news.

"He obviously opened a lot of eyes this spring," Hoyer said. "He played great, he carries himself so well. We'll get this right and get him back out there."
Jimenez, 20, has not played since Tuesday, when he made an awkward throw from left field to home against the Brewers. The ball sailed into the seats behind the Cubs' dugout.
The outfielder underwent an MRI and a CT scan on his right shoulder, and the Cubs wanted their orthopedic specialist, Dr. Stephen Gryzlo, to look at the test results.
Hoyer said Jimenez had some soreness in his right shoulder before the game last Tuesday, and he may have changed his mechanics, which might have caused the bruising.
"That [throw] sort of pushed things over the edge," Hoyer said.
Jimenez will not be able to swing a bat during the three-week rest period. He had an impressive spring, even if it was cut short.
"We love the way he swings the bat, the way he carries himself," Hoyer said. "The ball comes off like very few people in the game in terms of velocity off the bat. His balance is terrific at the plate. I thought he had a great camp for a 20-year-old kid.
"He didn't just open eyes in batting practice with his power, but he opened some eyes in the game," Hoyer said. "He had some really good at-bats and we thought he played great. It's a shame he'll start the season a little late, but that's when you remember it's a five-month season."
